Hello LOIA members past, present, and future:

Steve Converse here, your association president, with an important notice regarding our upcoming June LOIA member meeting on Saturday June 21st at 10:00 AM. After operating under the same constitution and bylaws for the past 22 years, it is time to update these important governing documents to better reflect the purpose and operation of our lake association in 2025 and beyond. The new draft document, which is attached to this email in PDF format, clarifies many things that were left somewhat vague by the 2003 document. This update will help us prioritize our activities, manage our membership and finances, and better deal with outside entities like banks and government agencies. Your board of directors spent a significant amount of time and effort developing and reviewing this document during the offseason, and has unanimously approved putting it forward to our entire membership for a vote!

Our existing constitution and bylaws, which remains in effect until a new one is approved, stipulates “This Constitution may be amended by a two-thirds vote of members present at any of the regular or Annual meetings provided that the proposed amendment or amendments have been submitted at the regular or Annual meeting prior to that at which the vote is taken.” Accordingly, the new document was presented to all in attendance at our May 24th meeting. Given that many members were unable to attend that meeting, we are attempting to place this in front of you for your review and comment prior to the intended vote at the June 21st meeting.

I recognize that this type of document can be challenging to read and understand, and that many of you will be willing to go along with the 2/3 super-majority vote. While that is of course fine, I encourage you to take a quick look prior to June 21st and get any comments, questions, or concerns back to me before then. And then, very importantly, PLEASE ATTEND THE MEETING ON 6/21 IF YOU POSSIBLY CAN AND PARTICIPATE IN THE DISCUSSION AND VOTE! Other important items will be on the agenda as well, and your input and support are always appreciated.
